About Us
The History of ComputerBase
ComputerBase was founded by Michael Chang in 1999 and started life at Oakway Center. At the tail end of 2000, Mike Owen joined the team and together they quickly established ComputerBase as a leading provider of the most reliable desktop systems in town. They learned from mistakes and phased out any component that exceeded a 1% failure rate. That's right — 1%. The focus has always been to reduce your downtime from failed hardware.
In 2006, Michael headed back overseas with his family, leaving behind the notorious Willamette Valley allergies. He sold the majority of ComputerBase to Bob Crandell of Assured Computing, a local consulting firm whose business complemented ComputerBase well. Since then the shop moved from its original Oakway Center location to Goodpasture & Delta Highway in 2001, then spent 15 years there before moving to 49 Silver Ln in March 2016.
In 2024, the shop made what may be its final move — cutting costs and overhead as Bob heads into retirement and Mike takes the solo show that most in-store customers have long come to know. Bob continues to provide limited onsite services but has stepped back to enjoy some well-earned time off.
And Now — Eugene Computers
Mike has had his nose to the grindstone for over 20 years serving Eugene and beyond. The majority of customers familiar with ComputerBase are quite often only familiar with Mike anyway, so not much has changed besides the name and the location. You've found the website. The phone number is the same. The face is the same. Come visit the new location.
